Welcome

Welcome to Anchor Mindful Teaching!

I am a classroom teacher with several years of experience teaching and tutoring grades K-12 in public, private, and international school settings. After establishing my personal mindfulness practice in 2015, I sought out mindfulness techniques to help my three school-age children through their sleep and social anxieties and emotion regulation challenges. The more I learned about the emerging field of mindfulness in education, the more passionately I believed that every child deserves to learn the simple but life-changing skills that mindfulness practices provide.

I received training in the Mindful Schools curriculum and have since been teaching this curriculum in both public and private school classrooms. These 20-minute secular lessons each include a new, simple mindfulness practice; age-appropriate reflective classroom discussion; and guidance to incorporate these practices into the students’ classrooms, extra-curricular activities, and home lives. These bite-sized sessions help to establish healthy mindfulness habits that–along with parent and classroom teacher support–can stay with students for long after the program is completed.

In addition to mindfulness lessons for students, I also offer mindfulness workshops for educators and parents on topics such as Teaching & Self-Care and Mindful Parenting. If you are located in the greater Seattle area and you are interested in bringing mindfulness to your community, please contact me using the contact form or at mary@anchormindfulteaching.com.

“The mindfulness lessons Mary conducted with my fifth grade class were deeply restorative and relaxing. The lessons built specific skills which helped each of my students enhance their personal toolkit for managing their bodies, minds, and emotions. Mary’s teaching is warmhearted, focused, clear, and reflective. Her work with my students has already had such a positive outcome, both for me and for the kids. I have a whole new set of language and strategies that I can use when my students become overwhelmed or need help monitoring their mindset to achieve better balance. I’m very grateful to Mary for her kind and skillful teaching, and for her dedication to this important area of work for our community’s youth. Thank you, Mary!”

“Mary is a natural mindfulness teacher and we loved her lessons. I was able to easily integrate and use the mindfulness lessons and breathing exercises throughout the day. Learning and practicing mindfulness opened up options and gave space to students and to myself.”

— Pam O., Seattle Public Schools

“The St. Francis of Assisi School Parent Association had Mary come speak to a group of parents about mindfulness and how to how to use this practice to benefit both our children and ourselves. Mary not only gave a wonderful overview of mindfulness and its practice but led our parents through a mindful lesson so we could really understand the process. Mary took a complex concept and helped made it less intimidating with her calm demeanor and relatability to us as parents. Mary is personable, knowledgeable, and her enthusiasm about the subject of mindfulness is infectious. Many parents reported that they went home and successfully tried some of the techniques Mary taught us! Mary’s presentation was a huge success and we greatly appreciated her time and expertise.”

“Mindfulness is really helpful when I’m stressed, because it pulls me back to reality and I feel less heated and worried and just focus on being mindful. It also makes it easier for me to control my anger because instead of realizing afterwards that I’m overreacting or making a big deal I can stop myself and calm down.”
